On May 22nd, 2008 fifteen hundred girls from Washington and Oregon between the ages of eight and eighteen will convene at the 6th United Girls’ Summit, Healthy Girls, Healthy Futures.

Motivated by current gender discrepancies in pay, detailed earlier this year American Association of University Women’s study, Behind the Pay Gap, the 2008 United Girls Summit is a chance for Girls Inc. of NW Oregon and its partners to empower girls to create strong, smart, and bold futures for themselves. The day’s speakers and workshops will present girls with a variety of career pathways, encouraging them to believe that everyone has a right to meaningful work. The Summit is an opportunity to introduce girls to diverse career possibilities, instill values of financial responsibility, and encourage leadership for economic change.
