Choices
girls and young women make today can profoundly affect their chances
for future economic security
Insufficient economic knowledge can
result in a lifetime of financial insecurity and hardship.
The good news
is that making sound economic decisions is a skills, and just like other
essential skills- such as reading and writing- it can be learned.
Group Features:

Organizational Support:
- Assistance with recruitment and promotion of program
- Ongoing professional support to site contact and
program facilitator
- Provide professional staffing and human resource

- Snacks and supplies for participants

Target population:
Girls ages 8-18 living in Multnomah, Washington,
or Clackamas counties
Program location:
Program start date is January 2006. Requests for 2006 sites are encouraged.

Program structure:
Bi-weekly, 1.5 hours per session, for 16 weeks after school at sites
listed above- times vary by location
Objectives:
Participants learn broad economic concepts
Participants learn personal financial skills
Exploration of issues that affect women and girls relating to economics
Exploration of rewarding careers
Program Components:
- Bi-weekly after school sessions using evidenc-
based curriculum
- Equal Earners, Savvy Spenders for girls ages 12-14.
Covers topics such as:
- Career development
- Banking skills
- Credit cards
- Futures and Options for girls ages 15-17 Covers
topics such as:
- Values about money
- Worker rights
- Planning and budgeting
