Girls Inc. could not do all the GREAT work we do without the INCREDIBLE dedication and support of our volunteers, interns and program facilitators. We would love to have your help with any of the following categories below:
Board and Committee Members
Help grow our organization and the number of girls we reach. Whether they are leading fortune 500 companies, or running their own home-grown business, our Board Members are among the best and brightest female business and community leaders Oregon has to offer.
Don’t have the time to be a board member? Help advance our vision for Girls Inc. by participating in one of the following committees- fund development, finance, Power of the Purse planning, and board nominating and development. If you would like more information on becoming a Board Member or a committee member, please call Elizabeth Nye, Executive Director, at 503-230-0054 or email elizabeth@girlsincnworegon.org
Girls Group Co-Facilitators
Using a curriculum, co-facilitators assist the lead facilitator with after school girls groups and provide one-on-one mentorship that help reduce relational aggression, build self-esteem, cultivate communication and decision making skills, and develop leadership skills. Volunteer co-facilitators commit 2-4 hours per week for at least one term. Most groups run one day per week, between 2–5 pm.
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Professionals
As a part of our SMART Girls curriculum, girls develop interest and confidence in STEM fields through fun, hands on activities that build technology, science, and math skills. Visits from female professionals in STEM fields inspire girls to pursue careers in science, math, and technology, contributing to Oregon’s most valuable industry.
Media Artists
Media messages depicting girls as sexualized, disempowered adversaries are everywhere. Help girls reshape media by participating as a media artist volunteer. The Girls Reshape Media project matches Girls Inc. sites with media artists (filmmakers, graphic designers, web producers, musicians, and muralists) from January-April to create to their own strong, smart, and bold stories and demonstrate them via the mediums of film, music, web, radio, and visual arts. Media projects will be screened, performed, and displayed at Portland Center Stage on April 20th in partnership with Storm Large and her one woman show.
Talent Troupe
We know that if girls have a passion they are less likely to engage in high risk behaviors. Share your passion with girls. Art, dance, advocacy, theater, yoga- the options are endless.
Mentors for Associates Mentoring Program (AMP)
The Girls Inc. Associates Mentoring Program is the only one of its kind in the country, providing meaningful workplace-oriented mentorship for girls during the workday. Teams of professional women collectively mentor a group of 4-5 girls for 90 minutes twice a month, introducing them to the multitude of vocations in their companies. Each team develops a Challenge project or product relevant to girls and related to the work of the company.
Events
Meet and mingle with local celebrities, community leaders, and Girls Inc. girls at events to benefit girls and Girls Inc. programming. Examples of events throughout the year include: Power of the Purse, Heart of a Woman Luncheon, The United Girls Summit, Allies in Action Media Event, and Girls Day at the Legislature. We need set up and tear down support, assistance with logistics, chaperones, and more. Power in numbers raise money for Girls Inc. and provide access to fabulous fun.
